J8009 vs J8009P: what does the P stand for, and are they interchangeable?

Tomasz W.· 13 views

Trying to understand the DAMIAO naming. The DM-J8009P-2EC costs more than the plain J8009 and the spec sheets look nearly identical at a glance. What does the P version give you, and can I swap one for the other in an existing design?

The P is about the bearing, confirmed by DAMIAO sales support:

  • Non-P models: deep-groove ball bearings. Think of this as the standard/basic version.
  • P models: cross-roller bearings. An upgraded version with better load-bearing capability.

Because of the cross-roller bearing, P models handle higher axial loads and overturning moments and are stiffer. They are also structurally more complex and cost more. For high-speed performance and output torque there is no significant publicly confirmed difference; torque is set by the actuator model, not by the P designation.

DAMIAO's own summary: the non-P is the base version with ordinary bearings, the P version uses cross-roller bearings and can take a larger axial moment and some overturning force.

Thanks. So if torque is the same, is the P a drop-in replacement for the non-P mechanically?

Don't assume so. DAMIAO told us the mounting hole positions differ between the two, and that apart from the bearing, the parameters and external dimensions are also different. They point to the product manual and spec sheet for the exact numbers.

So treat them as different mechanical variants: check dimensions, mounting interface and bearing/load specs for the specific model before substituting.
